My 1st tor of sea duty was January 1959 aboard the U.S.S.Northampton C L C 1. Home port , Norfolk ,VA. ( also , pier 7) she was a light cruiser, flagship of the 2 nd fleet. ( well known as the Grey Ghost of the Virginia coast) .
Then I transferred to the U.S.S. Boston CAG 1 on January 1, 1961.She was a guided middle heavy cruiser. Good duty. Hated holystoning the wooden decks!
